Advising Law Enforcement
Law Enforcement is a difficult endeavor, one which requires diligence in the pursuit of wrongdoers but respect for the rights of the citizen. Police officers have to make decisions about how to do this, often in a split second, on the ground, with little opportunity to consider the options. When possible, though, they often seek advice; the Commonwealth’s Attorney is there to provide it.
Police officers frequently ask for advice about issues regarding the rights of citizens and their duty to pursue wrongdoers, such as:
- When to make an arrest without a warrant, and when getting a warrant first is necessary.
- When to search without a warrant, and when getting a warrant first is necessary.
- What charges are appropriate for given circumstances.
With sixteen years of experience, Joan Ziglar can offer the expertise in these matters that law enforcement needs.
